My name is Alexei Roschak. I am the one who built the website you are currently reading this paragraph on and the one who created "most" of these M.U.G.E.N creations you see and may be downloading. My hobby is making creations for the M.U.G.E.N Engine developed by Elecbyte, but it didn't just start there. About 7 years ago I started delving into the world of programming. AS3.0 (ActionScript 3.0) was the first programming language that I learned: the language of Flash. That was only the beginning. During my years in college I learned Java, C, and Windows Assembly (Wow, was that a nightmare). I aced those classes and ended up teaching myself PHP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and XML with my newfound knowledge of programming. Everything just seemed to click. The world made sense (or at least the world of programming).
My M.U.G.E.N development actually started a little more than 5 years ago. I was absolutely terrible. My first creation was Zabuza or Itachi, from the Naruto series, using the SND (Saikyou Ninja Daikesshu) sprites. The character was unbalanced and took virtually no fighting game concepts into perspective. It was just an all-around "cheap" character that was never released for good reason. After that, I basically quit. Whether it was boredom or frustration, I gave up on coding M.U.G.E.N until 5 years later.
It's only been about 6 (at the time of writing this) months since I started up M.U.G.E.N development again, after the aforementioned 5-year hiatus, and I'm already 100% better than I was in the past. "How? How can that be when you've left it alone for that much time?" you may (or may not) be asking. Well, it's rather simple. I have a newfound knowledge of programming thanks to some very helpful College Professors of mine and just a bit of intuition and entrepreneurship. "I've already taught myself about 4 other programming languages. How hard could another one be?" is what I said coming into this once more. At first it was kind of challenging because M.U.G.E.N CNS (the coding language of M.U.G.E.N) is rather convoluted and non-standard. I'd say it's more of a procedural language, but without the use of helpfully named variables and direct access to memory. I'm rambling though, excuse me. The trick to learning of all of this in such a short amount of time was perseverance and patience. I read though the docs (located here: http://elecbyte.com/mugendocs/mugen.html) and tested out a couple of the triggers and state controllers to see what they did. See, the trick is that there is no trick. No gimmicks, just experimentation. That's the best way to learn in my opionion; Just do it yourself. Try it. The more you do it, the more you'll get a feel for it and the more it will start to make sense. It's ok to ask for help, but I don't suggest it until you are abosultely stumped; until there are no other options for you to take. Well that's all I've got to say for now. Enjoy the new site.
